PROGIS MapServer (PMS) consists of following components:

WinGIS WinGIS acts as a background application and processes the HTTP requests which are forwarded by the PMS application. The result of this process are images in the JPEG or GIF format. WinGIS uses also in this configuration a multi document interface to serve more than one parallel running PMS applications.

PMS-Application

This application provides the interface between WinGIS and any database. Its responsible for creating the HTML code on the basis of adjustable HTML templates. The connection to the database is realized by ADO (ActiveX Data Objects). Double click on the PMS icon in the Windows Taskbar opens the PMS console to configure the settings for database connection, WinGIS project, image type and quality, caching, ... Furthermore there statistic data about the number of calls, process speed, …

HTML-Templates

These HTML documents contains the design and all static content. The predefined HTML tags (<#MAP>, <#LAYERS>,<#QUERYRESULTS>, …) which are inserted into the templates acts as placeholders for the dynamic content. So a web designer has the possibility to integrate the PMS into existing web environments, without any specific knowledge of the PMS technology in the background.

WebModule

This DLL is bases on ISAPI technology and represents the actual interface between the internet (web server) and PMS. The WebModule receives the HTTP requests and transmits it to the PMS application and also sends the generated HTML content back to the user (browser).
PMS-Scripts This client side JavaScript library provides some interactive functionalities to the user (zoom, pan, selection of GIS objects, distance measurement, …). There are possibilities for continuous zooming into any area of the map by drawing an rectangle and also to show
